

Asst. Prof. Elizabeth H. Arenas, PhD.
Asst. Prof. Elizabeth H. Arenas, PhD earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Food technology at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila in 1996 and her Master of Science in Food Science at the University of The Philippines, Diliman in 2002. In 2017 she recently earned the title of Doctor of Philosophy, major in Biological Sciences at the University of Santo Tomas.
She is the current chair of the University of Santo Tomas Food and Nutrition Department. She is a current member of the Philippine Association of Food Technologist, Inc. and is also an associate Member of the National Research Council of the Philippines.
Her research interest includes evaluation of antioxidant activities and phenolic compounds from agro-industrial wastes, In vitro assessment of bioavailability of food antioxidants, and Development of innovative functional food products.
Engr. Emerson John Tiu Ng
Engr. Emerson John Tiu Ng is an alumnus of Mapua Institute of Technology with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry. He is a recipient of the Oscar Mapua Award and is also a silver medalist. He took his master’s degree in Science and Chemistry Major in Organic Chemistry & Natural Product Chemistry at the University of Santo Tomas.
He is currently an Oleochemicals Applications Manager at Chemrez Technologies Inc, and was a former Senior R&D Specialist at Green Cross Inc., a Senior Ag R&D Specialist in Stephan Company, a Technical Services Engineer at 3M, and a Senior Agrochemicals R&D Manager at Emery Oleochemicals GmbH
His expertise includes process design and implementation, service marketing and product development.


Prof. Bernard John V. Tongol, PhD
Prof. Bernard John V. Tongol, PhD earned his Bachelor and Master of Science degree in Chemistry at the University of Santo Tomas, and PhD in Engineering, major in Applied Chemistry, at Tohoku University – Japan, in 2007.
He is the current Director of the UST Research Center for Natural and Applied Sciences. In 2012, he was awarded the Outstanding Young Scientist of the Philippines in the field of Engineering (Applied Chemistry), National Academy of Science and Technology. He also received the Country Winner, Green Award 2013, Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce – ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology (MCCC-AAET). In addition to his recognitions, he is the Project Leader of “Nanostructured Electrocatalyst Composites for Direct Ethanol Fuel Cell: Preparation, Characterization, and Performance Evaluation”. His research interests include electrochemical surface science, electro catalysis and fuel cells, and materials science and nanotechnology.
Prof. Benedicta B. Alava, Ph.D
Prof. Benedicta B. Alava, Ph.D. is a former faculty member of the Department of Chemical Engineering, teaching chemistry courses. She served as Supervisor of the Chemistry Laboratory for a few years, and as Chairperson of the former Department of Engineering Sciences of the Faculty of Engineering.
She is a true Thomasian, obtaining her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry as well as her Master’s degree and Doctorate at the University of Santo Tomas. She received scholarship from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) for her PhD research work. She is not only a licensed Chemist, but she also passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET).
She is a pioneering faculty, who helped develop the Industrial Chemistry course in the Chemical Engineering curriculum. Prior to early retirement last Academic Year, she was also engaged in food product and materials development research.


Engr. Kevin Angelo Dales
He is a graduate of Bachelor of Science Major in Chemical Engineering in University of Santo Tomas and a certified licensed Chemical Engineer. As of now, he is currently pursuing a Masters in Food Science still in UST.

He is a finalist in Philippine Association for Technological Education Engineering Design Contest and BPI Science Award 2015 (co-author for group thesis) entitled Water Hardness Determination based on Photo Resistor Sensor. He was recognized based on his skills in leadership and management. He focuses on product innovation and product management.

Right after his graduation, he became the Management Associate on Research and Development in Jollibee Foods Corporation and currently, he is the R&D officer still in Jollibee Foods Corporation.
